PETTING ZOO

Petting Zoo was An in-house maker space and production studio I built in 2018, at seattle agency DNA.

The mantra was simple, “We think, we design, we build, we edit—but most of all we bring ideas to life.”

Petting Zoo Reel

Petting ZOO was a maker mindset and a culture of learning NOT a production company. A production company often implies an entity that is separate from the creative, or strategic, entity and there is some hand off between the two. Petting Zoo was not that. It was a mindset where everyone was encouraged and expected to contribute to bringing an idea to life. This did not just apply to “content” or something meant to be consumed on someone’s screen, it applied to events, concerts, online and offline touch points, etc.

We learn more when we make things ourselves.

Ideas often need to come to life across multiple mediums (events, film, social, print, etc.). This was THE spirit of how the Petting ZOO team thought and produced - the idea that the work can be larger than its intended medium. It is never just an “event” or a “TV spot”.

In the spirit of a fabrication workshop or a sculptor’s studio, we intentionally branded Petting ZOO irreverent and un-precious.
